This Spring Season was a time for growth, gaining new experiences, and stepping into new roles. Players on every team improved their skill level and faced the challenging opportunities with great grit and determination. Lessons learned from both victory and defeat will make our teams stronger for years to come. I hope the memories and lessons learned from each team’s journey will have a positive impact on all.
Middle School sports is the introduction to school athletics. It is the beginning of a journey. A time where the foundation of a program’s culture is laid, individual skills are honed, and individual players start molding into a team. All of our middle school teams– tennis, golf, soccer, baseball– worked to accomplish these goals. Our MS golf team will host an end of season invitational tournament on the 29th and our girls soccer team will participate in the QCC tournament next week.
JV sports helps players begin to specialize in positioning, fuels a passion for playing, and helps define a players role to best make the team successful. Both our JV soccer and baseball teams have done that and their growth has been evident in their late season performances.
This has been one of the most successful Spring Seasons for our varsity sports. This is the beginning of the final week of the regular season. Seeding for the NCISAA state tournaments will be this weekend.
Varsity Tennis has begun a successful rebuild. Losing all of its top players off of an undefeated state championship team, Coach Duncan and his team continued to work and compete. The team qualified for the NCISAA State Tennis Tournament. They lost to Covenant Day School in the first round.
Varsity Golf is very talented and on any given day can contend with any team in the state. Four players, Reid Huxley, Walker Highfield, Alec Motherwell, and Caiden Motherwell qualified for the NCISAA State Tournament. The team finished in 8th place at the NCISAA State Tournament.
Varsity Baseball is qualified for the NCISAA State Tournament. The team lost to Covenant Day, 15-9, in the first round of the tournament.
Varsity Soccer secured the #2 seed in the NCISAA State Tournament. They received a first round bye and defeated Charlotte Christian, 2-0, in the quarter finals of the tournament. The team defeated Forsyth Country Day in the semifinals, 1-0, securing the programs first trip to the state championship game. The team lost to Providence Day School, 0-2, in the state championship game.
